A new era for processed timber from GSEZ Nkok in the European Union market.
GSEZ initiated the creation of TRACER-Nkok, a partnership between FRM (Forest Resources Management) and the NGO Brainforest,in 2018 with the objective of filtering and recording all flows of logs entering into the GSEZ Nkok in order to ensure that 100% of the timber is legal, traceable and responsible.
On September 24, the long-awaited decision of the European Commission finally came! The TRACER-DR Due Diligence System is now recognized by the European Union Timber Regulation regime (EUTR). The EUTR's mission is to keep illegal timber and harvested timber products away from the EU market. This recognition implies many advantages for the access of TRACER-DR controlled timber to the European Union market for both timber importers and exporters and also for the industries settled in the zone as they will be able to obtain the TRACER-DR certificate, after an annual additional audit, as soon as all their log supplies are already certified by TRACER.
In just 3 years, this initiative of GSEZ, in the frame of ARISE IIP’s vision to sustainabily industrialise Africa has been consecrated and opens a new era for commercial relations between the industrial wood processing units of the GSEZ and their customers in Europe.
